DESCRIPTION
A semi-sequel/prequel to the highly acclaimed Metal Gear Solid (MGS), Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions puts you once again in control of the top-level FoxHound field specialist, Solid Snake. This time around, instead of fighting genetically engineered soldiers and saving the world from Metal Gear, you're in a combat simulator. Aboard the Discovery (the submarine that Solid Snake traveled upon before reaching Angel Island), you will prepare for the dangers ahead.
For those that have yet to experience MGS, the gameplay is based around strategy, tactics and action. Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions's interface and concept is similar to its predecessor, but is based on the simulator game mode that was included in MGS. This time, instead of just a few missions, you have nearly 150 different stages to play (300 including the Time Attack modes). Fans of MGS should be able to quickly pick up on the gameplay style. In fact, not only is the gameplay recognizable by fans of the original Metal Gear Solid, each of the missions (although similarities are sometimes minute) are based on events that occurred in MGS.
In addition to the various stages, there are extra bonuses for completing missions (you'll receive more options as your achievement rate increases). You can check out movies from the 1998 Tokyo Game Show (TGS) where Metal Gear Solid was first shown; take pictures of some of the cuties from MGS (Mei Ling and Naomi Hunter); and you can even play as the Ninja, (Grey Fox). Grey Fox is a character who appears late in the MGS game who could not be played, although there were many rumors surrounding a possible "secret option" that would allow players to do so. ~ Brandon Carey, All Game Guide

“Played through the time-attack sneaking mode (no weapon). One thing that I noticed that is kind of interesting is that the time-attack version of each sneaking mission is not exactly the same as...”

“I enjoy the VR missions, especially being able to play as the ninja, which up until this point was impossible. On the other hand, having no story mode to speak of dragged the title down for me. It was a solid rental though.”

“MGS: VR Missions has tons of things to keep you occupied, lots of unlockable items for MGS fans, my personal fave being the video clips and there is plenty of just fun modes like the camera mode and murder mystery mode. The soundtrack is great too.”
