DESCRIPTION
Unlike the relatively recent 3D Mega Man Legends games, Mega Man X5 follows the lead of the other "X" games and holds true to the original 2D platform action that established the classic series through the game's many incarnations on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the late '80s and early '90s. Once again, the hero must defeat eight different bosses, each with a unique special power. The hero gains the powers of the enemies he defeats, making him stronger as he approaches his final conflict with the master boss. Gamers can choose to play as either X or Zero in this edition in the series.
Mega Man X5 has a more developed storyline than many of its predecessors and the game's final outcome may be different depending on how it is won (or lost). In this episode, a peaceful asteroid colony is attacked by evil robots that disrupt the settlement's gravity generator. Therefore, unlike previous versions, the overall mission in Mega Man X5 must be accomplished within a certain time limit, before the asteroid colony plummets to destruction on the planet's surface. Other enhancements provide new moves for the heroes, who can now duck and move across gaps while hanging from pipes and bars on the ceiling. In spite of these advancements, the old-fashioned platform action should ring true with fans of the original Mega Man games. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
