DESCRIPTION

Mario expands his impressive sports portfolio with this arcade-style take on basketball for Nintendo DS. The 3D action is displayed on the top screen with the camera set behind one of three controllable teammates, including Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Wario, and other Nintendo mainstays. Each animated athlete dribbles the ball via directional pad, while shots, steals, jumps, passes, and special moves are all performed using the touch-screen interface.

Tapping or sliding the stylus in various directions across the screen initiates moves on both offense and defense. Players will also acquire such offbeat power-ups as red koopa shells or bob-ombs to shake up their opposition. The goal is not only to score points, but to also collect as many coins as possible while competing on an assortment of themed courts from the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond. “I do like mario. But I personally think that mario has to go somewhere fast or he will ternish the companie's identity... What I mean is that an icon doing too many things will eventually, in the end, have nothing left to explore.”

“Nintendo has done a great job with Mario over the years, moving him from platforming to puzzles, RPGs, Kart racing, Sports, fighting and party games. He also made the transition from 2D to 3D seamlessly while setting the bar for all 3D games to come. Mario isn't going anywhere. Nintendo will continue to reinvent him as they see fit. ”

“Look at Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story. Brand new game, reinventing an old IP. Old school platforming mixed with the mario rpg formula. It has some awesome skill-based challenges and a lot of unique puzzles. There are some really epic battles, and great dialog. Plus you get to play as bowser! finally. ”

“Having not played every game featuring Mario, I'm curious if there has been a game where Mario was ... well... showing off his skills as a plumber? I can't recall one off the top of my head =P.

Personally, I think Nintendo is and has been oversaturating Mario as a character. However, to their credit, they have managed to put him in mostly fun games. One thing they haven't done yet that has the potential for awesomeness is make a crossover RPG featuring all off the Nintendo characters.”

“@Linked713 I think your Halo idea would be a good example. I don't see Mario going first-person, and I don't see him going realistic or sci-fi shooter either. Mario is more of a third person throwing stuff at bad guys kind of man.”

“I've always been a Nintendo fanboy and Mario is the best...but I'm playing one right now-Bowser's inside story, that is just not that great. That being said, I bought it because of Mario, still playing the thing because of Mario, and will probably buy the next thing Mario, even if it involves unstopping toilets in the slums. BTW, I'd love to see a MMO, just to see what they would do with it.”

“The fact that the story is not only about the princess herself and playing as bowser brings a new direction to the game. Not only that you play as bowser but you also see his minions on another point of view (as you're not stomping them all the time). The change between the brothers and bowser is also fun. Overall that game gives me a huge change on the classic view of Mario Vs Bowser.”

“@StondMoose Yeah. But whenever mario gets into another game it just never involve any storyline at all. I would like to see link getting ported (somehow) into a foreign land and randomly meet mario. Things like that would be hilarious”
