Released in an era when cuddly cuteness was all the rage at the arcades, Mappy is indeed as adorable as a kitten. Players control Mappy the police mouse as he recovers stolen loot from Goro the Cat and the Meowky Gang. Doing so requires running and hopping (via trampolines) from floor to floor through 16 different houses, picking up 10 stolen items per house as quickly as possible. Other than jumping on trampolines, vertical movement is impossible, making the action more restrictive than most games of this type. Also, opening doors to release cat-thwarting "microwaves" is awkward to execute. Despite these setbacks, Mappy is charming, likable and challenging. A trampoline disappears after a few hops, and the cats get faster than the mouse after several levels, forcing players to think ahead and move strategically. Bonus levels and catchy background music are icing on the cake. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
