“DISCLAIMER: I Actually bought this game for iPad but it is the exact same as the PC version.
Story: There isn't really a story to this game. The main idea is that you are a planeswalker, a powerful magician with the power to travel across different "planes" of existence where you can use magic spells and summons to defeat your planewalker opponents. I could be said that the player's ultimate goal is to defeat the evil dragon-planeswalker, Nicol Bolas but there really is no story needed here. You play Magic: The Gathering for the cards, not for a story.
Gameplay: The whole point of MtG is to build decks out of spells, enchantments, artifacts and creatures that are designed to beat your opponents' decks. With 10 or so different decks to choose from, players can always find a playstyle that really suits them. Players play "land" cards that give you access to certain amounts of magic, which in turn allow you to play spells and summons. The more lands you collect, the more powerful spells and creatures you can cast. In the end, you will use these spells and creatures to reduce your opponent's life total from 20 to 0. There are several different modes to play (all of which follow the same basic formula with a few twists), including planechase, a game mode where switching planes can make a huge difference on how you go about playing.
Style: On the iPad 3, the graphics are amazing. The Retina Display resolution makes the cards beautiful to look at with easily readable text. The background and animated scenes tend to look a little low-res on the iPad's screen but these are minor issues. (NOTE: These issues may not be present in the PC version)
Verdict: If you are a fan of MtG but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on cards, you can't go wrong with Duels 2013. While full deck customization still hasn't reached this series, this is a great way to get your Magic fix.”
