DESCRIPTION
In a win-or-die-trying romp through America's happy days, Mafia II players vie for underworld ascendancy, in the role of a young thug who's willing to drive and shoot his way in and out of whatever trouble it takes to get the job done. The original Mafia won a gangland of fans by combining the open-ended driving adventure and on-foot urban action of Grand Theft Auto III with a more tightly scripted story, set in a romanticized 1930s inspired by films and pulp fiction. Coming a console-generation later, Mafia II presents a grittier, less linear, more personal adventure, but with the same goal of enveloping the player in a cinematic experience of action, storytelling, and violence.
Mafia II is set in fictional interpretation of New York City called Empire City, during the 1940s and early 1950s. Most of the game plays out in a ten square-mile area, created from hundreds of photographs and illustrations of the era, in interactive detail worthy of Illusion Softwork's (now 2K Czech's) original Lost Heaven — but in higher definition and greater intricacy. Players are free to walk, drive, and move all about the area with no artificial restriction, but the choices made there have realistic consequences. Laws, including traffic laws, are expected to be obeyed. Some character abilities can be advanced as the player desires, as in visiting a gym to improve hand-to-hand fighting. In many common situations, players can choose between normal and violent interactions with objects or people.
Instead of unfortunate circumstances leading the main character to a life of crime, as in the original game, Mafia II's Vito Scaletta is an outlaw hero at heart, whose ambition outweighs his moral reservations right from the start. When he was busted in a small-time robbery that went wrong, he took an opportunity to join the military instead of serving time in jail, The game begins as Vito returns from his tour of duty in World War II, ready to get back to work on his career. There are three competing crime families running the Empire City underworld. With patience, some luck, and a little dirty work, one day Vito could be the man in charge of the one that puts the other two out of business. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“Sensacional. Muito imersivo, tanto na história quanto no ambiente criado. A temática é uma que gosto bastante, a história é envolvedora e muito bem feita. Jogo repleto de traições e tiroteios. Muito bom. O único ponto fraco são as roupas e seu dinheiro, que constantemente você os perde e tem que "começar tudo denovo". Mas mesmo assim o jogo é bastante divertido e sempre te dá aquela vontade de jogar mais e mais. ”

“Stylish setting. Decent story and characters. Now the bad part, for some reason the developers really wanted to make being in the Mafia as unattractive as possible; every time you get to go carry out a mob hit, or something cool like that, the game will have you drive to and from every mission. Literally having to drive home after work then click on your bed to go to sleep. Not only that, in regular intervals the protagonist will get conscripted, go to jail, have his house burnt down etc. etc. ”

“Started Jimmys Vendetta... boring so far.”

“Did the last two chapters of Mafia II. Overall it was okay, but I feel I spent most of my time driving. I'll write my review once I've played through the DLC.”

“Played up to chapter 11. I'm still disliking the boring driving parts which really slow down the pace of the game, but the story and action in the levels is more than making up for it.”

“Played Mafia II through to about chapter four. It's quite fun but seems very slow paced so far. I'm assuming that once the main character is further integrated into a life of crime, the story will...”

“Like the original Mafia game, I was drawn into the whole "godfather" family feel of the game. The story were great, the voice acting spot on. The graphics were really well done, the gun fights were excellent.
Handling of the cars were a little too touchy for my liking, unlike the first game, where the hard to handle aspect seemed natural for the time period. Driving a car in mafia II feels like the speed of the vehicles doesn't match the handling, there was no balance. It could be because I use Keyboard and mouse, over controller, still.. Mafia I was heads and tails above I feel. Mind you, a little more practice, I think i can over come this.
The biggest problem I had with this game was how SHORT it was. 15 chapters. I was done in one weekend! This is from a guy with a wife, and two toddlers. After waiting so long for the release of this game, I was expecting a lot more content. Now there are two DLC you can get that will add some content to the game, but only one of them, Joe's Adventure, seems to really add any solid story to the current timeline. As we find out what happens as Vito is away in jail.
Another item to note is there is no free play like the first Mafia game, why in gods name would they cut this out? That was best thing about the first game, you could run around for hours, testing cars exploring. Now you are locked into one block at a time, and the cars that you can get access too depends on what chapter you are in... that was disappointing for me.
All in all, I love the game just like the first one, the free play is an issue, but not a game killer. The replay is all there, and jumping into a chapter to rise some hell is still just as fun.”

“Finished it. The ending was... pathetic. One poster found, some Playboys. I don't think I'll return to it any time soon - too much unplayed games!”
