John Madden is back with another edition of the long-running football series bearing his likeness and voice: Madden NFL 2000. Take your favorite NFL team and guide it through the regular season, the playoffs, and into the Super Bowl. Track the stats of every professional player in a simulated 16-game season, or watch the as the league changes over the course of 30 seasons in the franchise mode.
The Nintendo 64 version features 3D graphics complete with motion-captured player animation (recorded by stars Terrell Owens and Jamal Anderson); new moves such as jukes and gang tackles; and gameplay that takes into account rain, snow, wind, and other inclement conditions. John Madden and Pat Summerall call the action from the broadcaster's booth, peppering the dialogue with an assortment of "Maddenisms."
A new tutorial mode offers pop-up windows that explain how to play the game. Players can take on either the computer or up to three friends in an exhibition or season game. In addition to the simulation mode, an arcade mode is available that takes a cue from NFL Blitz with its taunts and bone-crushing hits. The "Madden Challenge" system involves earning points by achieving milestones like returning a kick for a touchdown or answering trivia questions. These points unlock special features and hidden teams. ~ Brad Cook, All Game Guide
