Louis Cat Orze is a mystery puzzle game for players both young and old. When King Louis XIV prepares to give the old Queen's necklace to his son's fiancée, it is discovered that the necklace has disappeared from the locked box and safe where it was kept.
Louis Cat Orze, the King's cat, hires you to discover what actually happened to the necklace. Most of the Palace of Versailles is open to you but it costs money to enter rooms. You begin with a certain amount of money and when your funds run low, you must go to the gaming tables to replenish it.
You have one week to discover who stole the necklace, why it was stolen and recover it. However, you're not limited to going through the days in sequential order. If an item that allows entrance into a room that was previously blocked is discovered, you can return to the previous day to use it.
While the game is targeted at older children and adults, gameplay only accommodates one player at a time. By using separate saves, though, multiple games can be ongoing at any given time.
The game generates characters based on many actual historical people and contains a portrait gallery where players can find out about them, hear a brief bio or read a more comprehensive biography. The gaming room allows you to answer questions about the time and place of the game to earn money. There are three sets of questions: easy, difficult and impossible with commensurate rewards for answering each.
In addition to money, you also need to amass keys and transport tickets to aid in the quest. Cleverness is required to find all the clues and retrieve the necklace before the King leaves Versailles. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
