DESCRIPTION
Set ten years after the tumultuous events from the original Lost Planet, this sequel finds the formerly frozen world of E.D.N. III undergoing a dramatic transformation. What was once an inhospitable arctic wasteland has given way to tropical jungles and arid deserts. Yet the gigantic, insect-like creatures known collectively as the Akrid have also adapted to the changes. Lost Planet 2's action is viewed from a third-person perspective like its predecessor, as you engage the Akrid on foot or from within a more expansive variety of armored "Vital Suits." You'll also choose from an assortment of customizable weapons, from machine guns and rocket launchers to sniper rifles and laser guns. A single-player campaign spanning six episodes has you controlling a series of characters from their unique perspectives, and a four-player cooperative mode has your team fighting for its survival against the Akrid swarms. Competitive multiplayer modes are also included, with a maximum of 16 players supported in a choice of game types. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“I greatly enjoyed the original Lost Planet. Here I was left mildly disappointed with the direction the game has taken. Still a decent game though.
What I liked:
- 2-4 player coop for the entire campaign. No arguments there.
- Collosal boss battles, occasionally with multiple options to take said big nasties down.
- Still as visually pleasing as the first.
- Mechs are still awesome, and you can swap the weapons out on the field.
What I didn't like:
- The jungle just doesn't have the same feel as an ice planet. Some very dull/uninteresting scenery.
- The menus and user interface are plain terrible.
- There's much more of an 'arcade' feel with this one, and I just don't think it meshes well with what made the first one so much fun. Things like points and a rather different thermo and health recovery system make for a few steps backwards in terms of gameplay mechanics.
- Because most of the scenery is rather dull, and this one's more of an arcade-shooter than its predecessor, the gameplay very quickly gets repetitive - even during a cooperative campaign.
- The clunky, stupid-looking armour and continually bad voiceacting makes for an experience that feels very B-grade.”

“Played a multiplayer match, which was interesting, since it was sniper rifles on a dark map, deathmatch. Interesting stuff, I need more practice with the multiplayer mode, and I might actually be...”

“Local co-op for LP2 is atrocious. The screens get way too small and makes it nearly unplayable. What was wrong with traditional split screen?”

“Finally got to play some more Lost Planet 2 after wanting to for so long. It's still so much fun, even though I was severely tired. Played through the finale of chapter 2 and then all of chapter 3....”

“Finally beat the game, oddly did not get credit for doing so, however. Oh well. Custom characters in campaign finally, and that's all I really care about.”

“Nearly got to the end, but all that pesky "real life" stuff got a hold of everyone and we had to call it quits on the last part of the last mission. Oh well, should be easy enough to...”

“After much trouble and false starts, we finally got our group together again to play, which was sorely needed. We beat chapter 5 and redid 5-3 a second time to get all the boxes that keep raining...”

“Things just keep increasing in difficulty, and I was just too tired to deal with it. Shame too, since it seems to be more and more difficult to get the three of us together at the same time.”
