DESCRIPTION
Produced by Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Lost Odyssey is a role-playing game that follows the unusually long life of a man named Kaim Argonar. Kaim is sentenced to live 1,000 years, and through that time, his loved ones will perish and his world will become a more uninviting place. Players will experience Kaim's day-to-day activities as well as his involvement in a larger story arc that finds his world succumbing to a hostile threat's reckless industrial expansion. The development team behind the game includes a number of notable Final Fantasy series veterans, including acclaimed music composer Nobuo Uematsu.
The story is primarily told through cinematic cut-scenes, while combat involves random encounters and turn-based battles with a party of adventurers. Instead of watching characters initiate attacks, however, players can influence the strength and power of melee swings by holding and releasing the right trigger at the precise moment when two rings are aligned around the target. Many enemies are also imbued with one of four elemental properties, allowing players to choose specific attacks to take advantage of weak points. Lost Odyssey spans four discs worth of content, offering optional side quests, secret treasures, and hidden boss characters in addition to the main storyline. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Nobuo and Hironobu team up again to present another game that isn't Final Fantasy and it still feels completely original and refreshing!
This game is one in a million! It literally makes you live the confusing life of someone who can never die nor age and it puts you through all the hardships that one with this burden goes through.
I never once thought about an immortal meeting his estranged grandchildren and how confusing it must be for them that he hasn't aged at all. Having best friends and losing best friends... Outliving past loves! Endlessly traveling without ever having to worry about food or water. There's also the scary thought of being captured, tied up, and thrown into a cave for 1000 years with no hope of ever being discovered...
This game was an eye-opener and only the original creator of Final Fantasy would be able to pull off something so written as this!”

“This is my favorite RPG in the Xbox 360. You follow Kaim, who happens to be an immortal. At first he is content with just follows orders. When he begins to get suspicious of his leader and wants to know more about his past, the journey truly begins. You team up with people, a mixture of mortals and immortals alike. Throughout the game you can unlock dreams which detail some of Kaim's life. These stories are amazing. Very well written and emotionally charged. Probably one of my favorite parts of the game. That aside, rest of the game play is the usual JRPG style. Turn based combat. Skill progression, world map, etc. The bosses will smack you around if you don't level up a bit between story pieces. If you want a challenge, just rush through. If you want a decent fight that isn't too hard, just spend some time grinding. It's usually not that bad.”

“The return to JRPG roots was something I just couldn't overlook, but the mechanics are very dated these days.”

“Old school RPG is here! Amazing storyline and great soundtrack, you'll like reading the protagonist dreams, even if you don't like reading. Maybe the graphics could have been better at some points, but you can ignore that fact easily.”

“Lost Odyssey was a fantastic game. Very much reminded me of playing some of the PS/PS2 Final Fantasy games. If you love those types of games then you are sure to love this.”

“What to say about an RPG that simultaneously drives the genre forward and pushes it back? Well, for starters, the graphics, sound, voice-acting (in Japanese), and overall presentation were all amazing. I remember being totally wow'ed by the first battle sequence, and although combat eventually got repetitive and annoying (and in a turn-based, menu-driven RPG, when *doesn't* it eventually spin into madness?), I still felt that the extra layers of interaction (like the ring system) really kept me in control and my focus invested in the game. In terms of general battle system and storyline, the game hearkened back to the old days, filling me with some nostalgia for the classic Final Fantasy games. Despite the *feel* of the game being very old, and despite the rather cliched storyline (as only the Japanese do best!), I felt that the presentation of the themes behind the story were perfect for the game, and the presentation as a whole was flawless. By the end of the game, despite being *done* with it, I was still emotionally invested in the characters, and I think I had a single tear at the ending. The writing was spectacular all the way through, and even if the game dragged on, the eventual culmination really lived up to all the foreplay.”

“Could not play it. The disc was scratched. Personally, I am sick and TIRED of games that do these ridiculously awesome opening scenes into a game. Well, at least RPGs anyways. It just irritates...”

“Beat Lost Odyssey. Did not get 100% achievements because of three missing Seeds and one Killalon yet alive, but very seriously considering getting everything done.”
