DESCRIPTION
Sony's most unusual release for 2008 is, on the surface, a platform title starring a stitched burlap doll called Sackboy. Yet beneath its whimsical exterior lies a robust editing tool that allows owners to create, save, and share custom levels. You are introduced to LittleBigPlanet through a campaign simply entitled "Play." This mode features an interactive tutorial and a series of offbeat levels where you'll be able to drive vehicles, activate switches, avoid hazards, solve puzzles, and defeat boss characters. By collecting orbs throughout each level, you'll earn various items, accessories, and stickers to help personalize the game to your liking.
The other two modes are arguably the heart and soul of LittleBigPlanet: "Create" and "Share." You can cobble together levels filled with an assortment of objects, platforms, dangers, triggers, and other surprises. Tools to create more exotic stages are unlocked by completing the tutorial, and other useful items will become available while advancing through the main campaign. Up to three custom levels can be published to the online community, who will rate and rank your creations. Those who deliver exciting content will be allowed to publish more levels, but there are no restrictions on the stages you create for friends. Up to four players can work together during the campaign as well as the creation phase. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“What I liked:
- What amounts to the ultimate sandbox: create, play and share whatever you feel like. There's lots to do.
- Graphically pleasing; physics engine is top-notch too.
- I love this game's sense of humour. Stephen Fry was the perfect choice for a narrator. Sackboy's animations are both cute and comical.
- Community-oriented. In case there wasn't already lots to do, there's a world of imaginitive players out there.
What I didn't like:
- Moving between the game's "layers" was at times irritating or otherwise slightly offputting.
- Creating with a friend or two in local coop is rather poorly handled; there's no splitscreen, and the camera is glued mostly to the leading player. If players were given their own space to create, I'd be sold through-and-through, but even if you're building the same object together, it's a constant fight for the camera.
- Create mode's "undo" function is a little buggy. A little as in a fair bit. This is mildly frustrating.
- Tutorials, while helpful, can be tedious at times, and are a requirement to unlock certain tools. This is especially frustrating when playing with a friend, as player progression is linked to only one User Account.”
