DESCRIPTION

Living up to its double-meaning title, Left 4 Dead features four living playable characters who have been left behind to survive in a city with a rapidly growing population of people-eating walking dead. In classic horror-film style, the four main hero characters are largely dissimilar and not likely to get along very well at first, but they will need to learn to trust one another and work together to survive the streets of the rampaging zombies. Computer-controlled companions are available for single-players, but online multiplayer co-op games are a main thrust of play. In a standard game, players begin each level in a safe area, where they can stock up on supplies and put together a plan before moving out into the zombie-flooded city streets.

No place is safe for too long in this game, however, and once the zombies start coming, they keep coming, no matter where the players run or hide. Generally, players will take a role on their team that matches the weapons or medical equipment they chose at the beginning of the level. Friendly fire is painfully possible, so players will need to be careful where they aim and shoot. Sometimes, in close quarters, a quick melee attack may be a safer way to temporarily stave off encroaching undead or knock a hungry zombie off a companion. The ultimate objective in each level is not known from the start, but created in part by a built-in artificial intelligence "Director," which analyses the players' positions and progress, and creates new challenges on the fly, making each game different and adding creepy factor of the unknown.

Left 4 Dead was developed by Valve Software, built on the studio's Counter-Strike: Source game engine. In addition to the four-person survival-horror game, available modes of play allow multiplayer competition for up to eight, with one team of four playing as the human survivors and the other four players taking the roles of infected boss zombies. Each boss zombie has a different special power, such as a prehensile tongue or an explosive belly full of corrosive swamp gas, encouraging them to combine their strengths and work as a team, just like the poor human beings they are hunting down for supper. ~ T.J. “Heh, I remember the last time I got killed in MW3, even though I haven't played it since June. It was on Interchange, on that really long sight line under the bridge. Hardcore Team Death Match. I was using the RSASS, trying to snipe this dude that was running around dual-wielding MP9s. I took 8 shots from the OPPOSITE END OF THE MAP, then he turns, looks at me and kills me! My sniper got bested by a hipfired machine pistol from across the entire map! In hardcore! I was using both Blind Eye Pro and Assassin Pro, so I should have been hard as hell to find. I quit right then and there.”

“Nothing beats that one L4D death though on Blood Harvest.

Worst run of my life. I mean I think I got incapped 4 times, puked on 3 or 4 times, killed twice on the third stage (once by tank, once by witch).

And the coup de grace: Finally getting through to the rescue truck. Running out to meet it. And getting ran over by it. ”

“You may enjoy L4D2 and especially get the DLC because the new set of survivors meet up with the original L4D crew - although just briefly, and not all of the 4 are there ( one is dead..but which one? :) either, but it's cool and more achievements and the online play has expanded options (different game types) and it plays much smoother, has more tech support/servers so you don't keep getting kicked off or disconnected from the server" like people do when playing online L4D nowadays. check it out”

“no problem .. I would like to be sure and add that, in my (and maybe your) opinion(s), if L4D had the same server support (and therefore more willing players to give it a go with the multi-player online) as L4D2 or (here's a joke) Halo REACH, it would make a huge difference when it comes to time I spent playing the game online. L4D , to me, is a five star game for so many reasons I can't even begin to start ! I love being Zoey and I love Frank (Francis, but I call him Frank) - I TRULY believe the Introduction to that game FOR that game is the best and most informative intro ever. Or at least it's in the race - but I'm betting it'll win- place - or show! Let me know how you like L4D2, maybe I will see you out there ”
