DESCRIPTION
League of Legends: Clash of Fates is a game of real-time strategy combat, meant to be played online by human competitors. Through a point-and-click interface, players focus on controlling powerful hero characters, who gain strength and new abilities by earning experience in fast-paced battle, against both computer controlled monsters and one another. The game plays like a character-driven RTS, in the explore-and-destroy spirit of Battle Realms, or the hero-centric levels of WarCraft III or Empire Earth, without the resource gathering or base management as in traditional online strategy. Players take the roles of godlike summoners, who can call and control mighty warriors and monsters in supernaturally powered battle arenas. They choose from more than three dozen hero characters, all inspired by legends and archetypes taken from myth and speculative fiction.
League of Legends is host to a persistent online world, in which players can develop their characters over time and practice. Hero characters can be further customized, with selected ability enhancements and powerful equipment, purchased with the experience and gold the character earns in battle. With its RTS-style controls, its RPG-style character development, and its fantasy-inspired heroes and monsters, League of Legends looks and plays most similarly to "Defense of the Ancients," the popular multiplayer map modification for WarCraft III, in which opposing players control squads led by powerful hero characters, set on wiping one another off the map. League of Legends is the first game created by Riot Games, a studio that comprises former contributors to Blizzard Entertainment projects as well as members of the group that developed "Defense of the Ancients." ~ T.J. “Played some more normals, fairly standard stuff. I tend to play a different champion in every game to mix things up a little. Though I still enjoy playing a few key favourites. I hadn't noticed that...”

“Played some pretty intense games with a friend. Just normals for a relaxing setting; laned as Lee Sin, whilst my friend played in the same lane as Malzahar. Did incredibly well - he was able to...”

“Got promoted back to Silver II! Now to start working my way up a little bit more... I'd be happy to just have gold and then let it rest. :-) It didn't look good because our ADC was experiencing lag...”

“Played some ARAM with friends until the mood got rather sour. I don't play to win, nor do I take the game so seriously, so I bailed. :-P”

“Played some ranked games with a friend; played as Annie in mid against a hyper-aggressive Lux. Sure, she had the upper hand early on, but eventually was able to predict her moves and by the time I...”

“What I liked:
- Built on the DotA framework, this rendition is actually greatly simplfiied. But I like it this way. It's more appealing to a great and diverse amount of people (the fanbase has grown considerably since the beta), and the sacrifice of sometimes overbearing complexity is well worth it in the name of having more fun.
- There's a large and diverse champion roster, each with their own potential builds and playstyles. A new champion is added every fortnight.
- The game is (for a PvP game with over one hundred playable characters, anyway) pretty well-balanced, with weekly maintenance and patching to fix any issues. Sure, there's the occasional bout of complete ridiculousness, but given the large roster and the factors that this imposes, I'm pretty happy with the balancing.
- There's a queue type for everybody, really. There's custom games if you want to mess about or create your own style of game, there's standard PvP, ranked for the serious players, and several gamemodes to mix things up. There's also basic and intermediate bots, for the PvE-oriented.
- The social side is well-implemented - Summoner profiles, stats, match history, etc.
- Visually the game is pleasing and colourful. There are a few old champions that could use a serious makeover, but there aren't any major issues here.
- The matchmaking is quick (; rinse and repeat ad-infinitum...
- Some design decisions are rather deplorable, and at times there are more minor, insignificant tweaks than there are much-needed changes.”
