DESCRIPTION

Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny is a role-playing adventure/fighting game in which you play the main character, Luther, who is beset by an age old curse, one that makes him morph instantaneously and without warning into a raging beast or a tiny and quick dinosaur-like lizard. The main objective is to find a cure for this uncontrollable (and no doubt socially embarrassing) malady as you travel through a fantasy world replete with medieval-like environmental aspects. While searching for a remedy, Luther uncovers a sinister and evil menace that will take equal measures of might and magic and all his resources and skills to defeat.

The interface is a combination keyboard and mouse system with game play from a first-person 3D perspective. The huge game world contains standard RPG fare such as magic and healing potions, conventional medieval weaponry and magic spells, exotic and fanciful locales to explore, and large numbers of NPCs, both enemies and allies. Puzzles, traps, mini-quests, auto-mapping and a need to master the technique of shape-shifting are all elements of this enchanting and complex plot.

The game contains an enormous amount of customizable options that impact on nearly every aspect of the game (e.g., movement toggle between mouse and keyboard, inventory management, auto-save parameters, graphics adjustment, and much more). Version 1.30 (upgrades version 1.06) is available (as of late 1998) as a patch from ftp.westwood.com, (filename: ll2-130e.exe) and upgrades performance of several types of 3D accelerator cards (3Dfx) for use with Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny. ~ Michael L.
