DESCRIPTION
Based on motion picture of the same name, Krull for the Atari 2600 tells the tale of Prince Colwyn and his quest to rescue fiancee Princess Lyssa from the dreaded Beast, a creature that kidnapped her on the day she was to marry.
The game begins at the marriage ceremony of Prince Colwyn and Princess Lyssa. The Beast's Slayers interrupt the ceremony, however. Use your sword to fend them off as long as you can. If one of the creatures reaches the bottom of the screen, Princess Lyssa will be kidnapped and you must race off to save her.
Mount your horse and cross the Iron Desert in the side-scrolling portion of the game, where you can pick up five-sided throwing stars known as Glaives to fight the Beast. You can also pick up extra lives as well!
On the other side of the Iron Desert lives the Widow of the Web, who can tell you where to find the Black Fortress where Princess Lyssa is being held. Jump over the sticky, moving spider webs to reach the Widow's cocoon in the top center of the screen. Beware the Crystal Spider: its bite is deadly.
When you reach the cocoon, a flashing white light will indicate the correct passageway to the Black Fortress. Exit the web there and mount your horse again to race off to save Princess Lyssa. If you choose the wrong passageway, you will lose either one Glaive or one life.
Choose correctly and you will find yourself at the Black Fortress facing the Beast. Use your Glaive to break away chunks of the prison where Princess Lyssa is being held captive. Be careful: The Beast will attempt to block your shots and retaliate with shots of his own. Catch the Glaive on the rebound or it will be lost. The game is won when you free Princess Lyssa. Accomplish this and play the game again, only this time it will be on a more difficult setting. ~ Michael Schwartz/Joan Dykman, All Game Guide
