When thinking about classic stories that would serve as ideal storylines for an action game, one that comes to mind is the story of King Arthur. His rise to leadership, which began with the recovery of Excalibur from a stone and his ultimate quest to find the holy grail is the backdrop for Knights of the Round. It's classic 2D sidescrolling gameplay as Capcom became so famous for during the early 1990s.
Gameplay begins with the selection of one of three characters. Lancelot who sacrifices power for his speed and agility, is a contrast to Perceval, whose mighty axe and tremendous power are accompanied by a corresponding encumbrance. Arthur manages to serve as a rounded balance of both strength and speed. As with most other games of this genre, the play mainly focuses on scrolling through various cities, battlegrounds, and castles as the players (up to three simulataneously) shorten the distance between them and the holy grail. ~ Paul Biondich, All Game Guide
