DESCRIPTION
The fourth chapter in the Kingdom Under Fire series, and the first for the Xbox 360, Circle of Doom casts off the series' traditional formula, that of large-scale real-time strategy battles mixed with small role-playing elements, in favor of a full RPG adventure centered on the development of a single character. Korean developer Blueside sends players back to the Dark Dimension in an attempt to end the Epoch of Light, where players can battle though a series of vast, randomly generated dungeons. Each dungeon environment is fully destructible, a feature that helps provide new avenues of exploration as well as varied means to battle enemies, which can sometimes number in the thousands at any one time.
Circle of Doom features six playable characters, each with different combat techniques that gamers can use in conjunction with more than 50 abilities and 60 weapon enhancements. The plot winds through six acts, each featuring about 6 levels, with the narrative moved along during dream world sequences that also help characters gain new powers. Circle of Doom features a four-player online co-op mode that lets each person jump in and out of the action without affecting the overall story, and players can purchase a host of new accessories via Xbox Live. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“ A decent hack and slash game with multiple characters to play as. Crafting equipment and learning skills help keep the gameplay fresh.... until it becomes a chore to progress.”

“This game is just... not sure what, exactly. Its a little hack-n-slash; its a little RPG. I will say that the battle style, while nice and reminds me of Ninety Nine Nights, feels sluggish. So far, I...”

Pros: Nice graphics, interesting item synthesis system (think Horadric Cube, without the cube; if you don't know what a Horadric Cube is, I should slap you then force you to play Diablo II), highly intriguing storyline. Good music, with one caveat listed below.
Cons: The storyline, while great, feels more like an afterthought once you get deep into the game. Unfortunately, like many Action-RPGS, it also falls into the pit of repetition quite early. Hack and slash, slash and hack, rinse and repeat...over...and over...and over. Further, while the music is good, the same music plays whenever you're in combat. Plus, and this is my biggest gripe, NO BLOCK BUTTON! *SCREAMS* Healing potions too difficult to come by, when you can't block. Did I mention you can't block?”
