DESCRIPTION
The sequel to 2001's best-selling Jak and Daxter once again follows the exploits of the elfin hero Jak and his churlish sidekick, a weasel-like creature named Daxter. Using the same 60 frames per second graphic engine as its predecessor, albeit with a number of refinements for more dramatic visual effects, Jak II takes place in a darker, more futuristic world than the original game. The titular hero, now older and wiser, has a number of new moves and abilities this time around, all of which are available right from the start. As players make their way through this mystical world, acquiring power-ups and interacting with an assortment of characters, they will unravel over an hour of cinematic cut-scenes to further the story.
Jak's new skills have him zipping around the world atop a hoverboard, using multiple weapons such as a laser rifle to neutralize foes, and performing a number of acrobatics to escape from harm's way. The game blends action sequences with light puzzle-solving situations, whether it's shooting through a series of rotating pipes on the hoverboard, traveling at high speeds in a vehicle, or aligning multiple objects in a specific direction to trigger a gateway. For this second game in the 3D platform series, developer Naughty Dog (Crash Bandicoot) called upon the talents of Hirokazu Yasuhara, designer and co-producer of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series on the 16-bit Genesis, to assist with level planning. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Just started Jak 2 this morning on the HD collection. They really put up the visuals this time around and didn't cut any corners breathing new life into this old series. In comparison to most HD...”

“Now this was an unexpected twist! Jak II turns the series into a bleak dystopia called Haven City, where Jak becomes the subject of twisted experiments by the ruler of the city. Freed by Daxter, Jak embarks on a quest for revenge against this leader, Baron Praxis. The platforming in this game controls exactly like the original and elements such as jet boarding are still very prominent. This game puts a ton of more emphasis on combat compared to the original adding guns and a psychotic super-mode in the form of Jak's dark eco self. You'll also be driving around hovercraft in missions as well, which are a lot different from the speeder from the original. The characters in this game are awesome as well. The main cast from the original is in this one as well, but the spotlight is on the new characters like Krew, an obese crime lord and classic video game villain, and his bad-ass right-hand man Sig, who will sometimes join you on missions. There's also this sarcastic parrot that makes for a great opponent for Daxter in exchanging witty comebacks. There's a few notable rebels that Jak sides with that are likable as well. This is an awesome game, and I'd put it between 21-30 on my fav games ever. (owned and completed. Accurate rating is 9.00)”

“Remember the relaxed and happy first game? Welcome to the exact opposite: a dark and frustrating game.
+ The Dark Eco power is kinda nice once you finally get to unleash it.
+ The story, while being far from perfect, is... decent enough but one can't deny how they progressed when compared to J&D1
- Traffic. Sure, you could just Speed trough and steal all vehicles you encounter or rapidly switch between ground and air modes but it's just stupid... Traffic is tedious and it seems like they didn't think it trough. If they had added another air mode or something it would've been better and perhaps you might finish a street without killing everyone.
- You've got a platformer with guns... that's what this game is. The platforming is nothing special and disappoints when compared to J&D1 and the shooting is simply the classic selection with a kiddy look.
- Dark Jak is overpowered and takes too long to charge. Against normal foes you'll use it only when surronded and in those cases you'll be facing respawning masses, making it useless. Against bosses? One DJ activation means one boss-phase down in a single hit... overpowered <
- The lay-out is horrible. Enjoy losing your way trough the city...
- Racing missions. They are made to frustrate and require you to use one exact route... which will be messed up due to traffic! Missions like these rely more on luck than skill...
I know they had to change some things... but seriously guys? this game just doesn't compare with J&D1 or R&C...”

Jak and Daxter are thrown to a dark future in the first adventure and get separated, Jak is tortured by Baron Praxis and gain a new skill based on dark eco untill he's released by Daxter. they join the resistance and the adventure begins in Haven City with the 2 heros doing all they can to defeat Baron Praxis.
Enjoyable game with some hard missions, great storyline.”

“Not as big a fan of this one. Again, we suddenly get a sullen anti-hero. And while I appreciate the new-found depth that this brought to the series, what with the open world system and the weapons thing, I just felt depressed with all the revenge talk and the darkness that permeated it. Definitely play it, if only to get to the third one and not feel lost.”
