DESCRIPTION
The creators of the beloved Crash Bandicoot series bring out a new duo of heroes for 3D platforming on the PS2 with this release of Naughty Dog's Jak and Daxter. While Jak is a handsome young hero with big blue eyes and bushy blond hair, his companion Daxter has been transformed into a small weasel-like creature by a strange dark curse. The two heroes set out to seek the forgotten secrets of the Precursors, an ancient race that inhabited the land many ages ago. Only by seeking the wisdom of the ancients can they hope to change Daxter back to his natural form.
The game is designed to provide a large 3D world populated with towns, ruins, and diverse wilderness areas and it does not follow any strict level progression. The storyline is open-ended enough to allow Jak and Daxter to find their own way through the adventure, searching the land, accepting quests, and taking on powerful boss characters in the order the player chooses. By helping local inhabitants Jak and Daxter can earn power cells, which help to open up new areas. The heroes also find new weapons and gain new spell as they journey through the land. ~ T.J. “J&D was a good platformer and was a rather steady competitor for the Ratchet&Clank series back then (btw, Jak lost this battle :D). Were R&C did classic platforming/adventure with some weapons and gadgets added in, J&D stayed with the good ol' platformin + powerups combo :D
+ Good platforming action. Yep, very nice gameplay :D
+The story, while goofy, wasn't bad and the characters were fun.
- Collectibles, unoriginal powerups, lame racing,... I know they're common occurences in the ol' platforming scene but I don't care for them.
I never played Crash Bandicoot (in my defense, I do know who he is :D) so I can't compare them (and I therefor I can justify this score :D). I loved playing this game back then, nice and relaxed, and was quite saddened when they made Jak all "dark" in J&D2.”

“3D platform game, very good specialy because of the humorous Daxter. It can give you a few hours of amusement.”

“The creators of Crash Bandicoot just made another Crash Bandicoot. Only being so generous with the rating due to how the game evolved.”

“Honestly, liked this one the best. It was uplifting and beautiful, filled with intense platformer action, the likes of which we haven't seen since Rayman 2 or Mario 64. It was funny, and wonderful, and occasionally frustratingly difficult, and it's still one of the best-looking games on the console, this many years later. A PS2 classic, if there is such a thing.”
