DESCRIPTION
Jade Empire is set in a mythic version of ancient China, at a time when a parallel world of darkness and chaos threatens to cross over into the realm of the living. Players initially choose from a selection of predefined characters, each with a name, background, and distinct skill set. They will then be able to gradually shape their character's fighting style from over 30 different types, from martial arts to weapons-based combat to even magic. Combat is performed in real-time from a third-person perspective, with players able to pause the game to execute specific commands during the fighting sequences.
Body, mind, and spirit are the three primary attributes inherent in each character, and over time mastery over these guiding forces allows players to transform into a terra-cotta warrior, fox, or ghoul, respectively. No matter which character is selected at the onset, players will be able to hold court in a base of operations called the stronghold, where they can practice specific techniques, store acquired relics or mementos, and even build a flying ship in the shape of a dragonfly. Though the game follows the path of one character instead of a party, players can earn "followers" to their cause who will remain at the stronghold to be assigned tasks that will help influence the story.
The Special Edition features improvements in graphic resolutions and additional visual effects, enemies, and fighting styles. An exclusive art book is bundled with the game as well. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“This is one of bioware's gems, well pretty much all their games are gems in my mind...but this one is probably my 2nd most favorite one from them, mass effect being the first and most recent. They really took a jab at a new style of games with the time it's based in mixed with the chi-magic and the way the combat is done. It makes it way more interactive during combat and though dialogue can feel a bit stale at times it isn't too much of a bother. I do wish there was more character customization (way more) because so far you can only have healing wave and one of the 5 other styles...that isn't much to choose from though you do make your own way by putting your own stats for HP/Chi/Focus and upgrading the different styles. I personally felt the styles were cool, yes, but it didn't feel like much to me...yah sure it's cool you get to turn into a toad demon for a bit and wack the crap out of some guys but it didn't feel special since it isn't some well executed move you had to earn.
On that note, I feel it wasn't very in keeping with the martial artist ancient chinese type style they were going for, pretty much all of the movies I've watched the hero only knows how to execute one style maybe 2 styles of fighting and master them...they never really knew 25 styles and were really good after a while at about 8 or 9 of them...it just didn't feel right.
So basically I feel that this game would be perfect if there was tons of styles to choose from, all the styles you can get throughout the game...maybe make it so you gotta unlock them for new chars, then for each style have a skill tree where you pick which skills you want and keep going down that tree picking different branches to learn new moves + improve them. The customization definitely needs a bit more to it besides choosing out of 5 or so premade characters. But yeh great game still.”
