DESCRIPTION
International Karate is a 2D side view karate fighting game. Taking on the role of one of the two karate experts, players must defeat the other karate expert in hand-to-hand combat using a variety of punches and kicks. Matches can be won by acquiring two full points. As players win matches they will also advance in belt rank, going from white belt to black belt and beyond. Each new belt rank brings a faster and more skillful opponent. Between matches players will have an opportunity to play bonus games of timing, like breaking bricks with their character's forehead.
Using an eight directional joystick and an action button, players can guide their character into throwing a variety of karate techniques. Each technique that connects with the opponent scores either half a point or a full point, depending on how clean the technique was. Two full points wins the match.
International Karate allows two human players to compete against each other. In player versus player competitions the two point score gauges are replaced with a row of dots, representing one continuous gauge, with each player's color occupying half the gauge. Each successful attack earns the player one dot in the gauge while depriving the other player of a dot. The player who has more dots in the gauge when the timer runs out is the winner. Players can also win by completely filling the dot gauge with their color. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
