DESCRIPTION
Players return to deep space for futuristic piracy and warfare in Independence War 2 from Particle Systems. The 1998 release of the original Independence War distinguished itself from many other space combat simulations by incorporating realistic physics into the gameplay and by striving to tell an engrossing story as the player progresses through its missions. This second full release in the series is designed to expand and enhance those features with new characters, a new plot, and a new game engine created from scratch for this title.
The player takes the role of Cal Johntson, an able spacefarer and a man with a score to settle. Johnston's father was cruelly murdered by a member of the rich, deceitful, corporate elite. Years later, joined by a small group of similarly downtrodden escaped prisoners, Johnston seeks revenge for the crimes against his family. But in the delicate environment of political unrest that exists in these new colonies at the frontier of space, Johnston's actions spark a wave of rebellion that puts the whole sector in turmoil.
Independence War 2 allows the player freedom of movement and exploration through 16 star systems in the two main star cluster areas that are the setting for the game. The adventure aspects of the game are designed to allow the player a sense of autonomy while still supporting a detailed scripted plot. A variety of ships are available to pilot and players can engage in such diverse activities as piracy, looting, and all-out warfare as they find their way through the game's storyline. ~ T.J.
