Rage and Interplay have brought us Incoming for the Sega Dreamcast, a title that mixes classic wartime combat with futuristic war. During the game the player will be able to control various craft including helicopters, tanks, moon shuttles and turret guns. The main objective of the game is to defend allied bases while attacking enemy forces with the numerous craft assigned.
There are several ways to play Incoming. The Campaign mode will require that the gamer to complete 60 missions in an effort to save the world. Each mission will require the gamer to accomplish various tasks. Some missions have you defending bases while others have you defending ocean liners. Other missions may even require you to put out fires or airlift tanks of gasoline. Each mission contains sub missions, at the end of which an audible voice will ask that you destroy a certain object or defend a certain area. A radar and waypoint marker will help guide players to their next objective.
Arcade mode offers a traditional style of play where there is no ending. Instead the game ends when all of your ships have been destroyed. There are two ways to play the two-player split screen game. One is the defense-oriented game where gamers will cooperate to defend an installation. The other is a competitive two-player game that simply requires the gamer to blast more enemies than the opponent in order to obtain victory.
During the action it is possible to witness the carnage from several different views, some more cinematic and others more playable. Enemies will range from alien tanks to spacecraft and due to the fast paced style of the game, it is possible to overtake dozens of enemies simultaneously. This is mostly due to the guided machine gun fire that the majority of craft contain. ~ Jonathan Licata, All Game Guide
