Despite its high level of challenge and near-constant barrage of enemies and enemy fire (from above and below the surface), In the Hunt is a tedious horizontally scrolling shooter that is slow and boring. Players man a submarine through the frigid waters of the South Pole, amidst sunken ruins, along the depths of the ocean and among other watery terrain, firing away at helicopters, aircraft, ships, submarines and end-of-level bosses. For a little variety, one of the six levels scrolls vertically. The sub starts off with simple machine guns and torpedoes but can be upgraded to carry surface-to-air missiles, smart missiles, hyper torpedoes and other superior weapons. Still, the weapons aren't powerful enough, the sub is not fast enough, and the game is not fun enough. The graphics are colorful, but look a bit dated in comparison to other games from 1993. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
