DESCRIPTION
Combine key attributes of Earth's most powerful and specialized animals to create an army of new creatures, custom-suited to protect the land and squelch the evil efforts of a dangerous madman, in this fully-3D real-time strategy game from Relic Entertainment. With a background story and setting reminiscent of H.G. Wells' The Island of Doctor Moreau, Impossible Creatures takes place in the 1930s and is played across a chain of South Pacific islands, isolated to develop their own distinct, dynamic, and potentially deadly environments. An important element of gameplay comes in combining the features of different animals to create new creatures. Strategy involves choosing the proper features to design a beast that will fill a certain need or be able to accomplish a particular goal.
Relic Entertainment introduced itself to the industry with its development of 1999's critically acclaimed deep space strategy epic Homeworld. Though designed to offer the same smooth flow, unified presentation, and multiple layers of strategic nuance, Impossible Creatures is a game with a style all its own. It focuses on tactics and creativity over micro-management, to offer fast-paced, pick-up-and-play scenarios. Lead the hero character Rex Chance against the minions of an outrageously villainous mad scientist bent on world domination, in a battle for control of the strange chain of islands. The release strives to provide the same engaging gameplay as Relic's earlier effort, but with a somewhat lighter tone, more appropriate to an earthbound adventure story. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“Being able to design your own creatures added a lot of interesting strategy options to the game. Other than that it was a very bland RTS. The graphics were poor and the story made no sense. ”
