DESCRIPTION
Aunt Hildegarde has died and left her posh mansion and artifacts behind. There is a question of which heir will inherit these riches, however. In her will, she noted that whoever found ten treasures within the estate will claim her expensive possessions. There's one small hitch: the treasures must be found before nine o'clock the following morning and taken to the dining room. This whole situation has caused quite a stir with her relatives.
You've been chosen to search for the treasure. Hollywood Hijinx is a text-based adventure set within the hallowed halls of the mansion. Before commencing the search, you received a couple items such as a flashlight for searching dark areas and a picture of Uncle Buddy with a poem scrawled on the back. The poem contains clues for treasure locations.
While her mansion contains expensive items, the "treasures" are ordinary items such as a diamond ring, a parking meter, film, a toupee and an old catcher's mask. Each treasure is located in a different section within or around the mansion. The mansion contains areas such as the bomb shelter, hidden halls, an attic, various bedrooms and an outdoor hedge maze. When a new location has been accessed, a description of the area and important items is shown.
In the tradition of Infocom's other adventure titles, there are a number of commands that must be entered for movement and exploration. The treasure hunter can burn and count items, drink flasks, and listen for odd sounds coming from an adjacent room; each verb is used in coordination with an interactive item. Movement is handled via compass directions such as "East" and "North". You can "Offer" items to other characters, "Climb" stairs or ladders and "Unlock" doors. Whenever an item is collected or an important event takes place, a number of points is awarded. There are 150 adventure points in total. Find the treasures before time expires...Aunt Hildegarde's relatives aren't counting on you. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
