DESCRIPTION
Heroes of Might and Magic is unusual in that it combines a traditional strategy-type game with a world-building game reminiscent of Civilization and a smattering of role-playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
You start out as a warlord trying to gain control over the area surrounding your castle. Since you do not leave your castle, you have a hero-general to do your fighting for you, along with his or her personal forces.
Your castle-town has space for you to build structures that produce certain types of troops every week. Even if you have the money, you cannot build more than one building per day. More expensive buildings require more than just gold to build, but provide increasingly more powerful troops, from unicorns to phoenixes to dragons and cyclops.
Along the way your hero will fight certain enemy monsters, which will vary depending on what color your standard is. The Yellow player's forces will probably consist of elves, fairies and dwarves, with the occasional druid and unicorn. The Blue player will have mostly centaurs and gryphons, with hydrae and minotaurs as well.
Battles take place in full combat mode. If your hero is defeated or runs away, he also quits your cause. But you can have more than one hero at a time, and can hire another at your castle. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
