DESCRIPTION
Hellfire is a side-scrolling shooter where you take the controls of a powerful spaceship and launch an assault on an alien world. The game requires you to navigate through caverns, metallic corridors, and open space while facing mobile and stationary enemies. Your ship is armed with a laser gun capable of firing in four directions. Using the aim button, you can fire straight ahead, directly behind your ship, above and below your ship, or you can launch four lasers that move diagonally from your ship. When certain enemies and inanimate objects explode, they release power-up icons. "S" icons boost your ship's shield power. "P" icons increase power to your ship's guns. "B" icons cause a powerful bomb to explode, eliminating all onscreen enemies.
Most of the alien enemies in Hellfire can only be destroyed after multiple hits with your laser gun. The number of hits depends on the number of "P" icons you have picked up before crashing your ship. Players start Hellfire with five ships. The game awards bonus ships when players hit scores of 70,000 and multiples of 200,000. When all ships are gone, the game is over. Players can continue the game indefinitely if they insert additional coins. Two players can play Hellfire simultaneously on the same screen. One player's fire or ship position does not interfere with the other player. ~ Anthony Baize, All Game Guide
