DESCRIPTION
Harvest Moon GBC is a colorized port of Harvest Moon GB, which was released for the original Game Boy in 1998. In addition to new color graphics, an option exists for players to keep the game running after the handheld is turned off (using the system's internal clock). The goal is otherwise the same: after selecting a male or female character and a dog or cat companion, players must revitalize their deceased grandfather's abandoned farm to become a ranch master within one year's time. To build a successful farm, players need to clean the debris from fields, plant seeds, water crops, and harvest them when they are ready. Additional sources of income include cows and chickens, but players must ensure their livestock are well fed and cared for if they hope to "milk" the results. The farm consists of several different buildings to attend to. The house allows players to check livestock status, the pantry, and even the weather. Storage sheds hold tools and seed types, while the loading area is the repository for harvested crops. The silo stores cut grass for cows and chickens.
Other areas of note include barns, coops, ponds, and wood storage. Since Harvest Moon doesn't isolate players from the rest of the community, characters will be able to visit local merchants to acquire new tools of the trade, such as sickles, hoes, and watering cans, purchase livestock, or volunteer for side jobs to earn extra cash. Each year the grandfather's spirit will evaluate the character's progress, bestowing special rewards for hard work. Harvest Moon GBC also supports the Game Link Cable to trade animals, seeds, or even pets. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
