DESCRIPTION
Microsoft and Bungie's blockbuster sci-fi shooter series continues with this standalone expansion to Halo 3. Battle through an all-new campaign as an ODST, short for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, in a storyline that serves as a prequel to the events chronicled in Halo 3. Your mission is to locate the remaining members of your squad somewhere within the Covenant-besieged city of New Mombasa. A new multiplayer mode entitled "Firefight" is introduced, where up to four players must work together to repel increasingly challenging waves of enemies. A second disc is home to a total of 24 multiplayer maps, three of which are new, with the remainder comprised of the "legendary," "heroic," and "mythic" Halo 3 map packs that were previously available as downloadable content via Xbox Live. Initial runs of Halo 3: ODST also include a key to the multiplayer beta of the franchise's next anticipated entry, Halo: Reach. This collector's pack includes both the game and an exclusive wireless controller featuring custom-designed artwork. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“We all know halo four is coming, but this time, not from Bungie, which, in my opinion is a good thing because hardcore halo 3 fans, have been waiting for a fucking awesome sequel to halo 3, but...”

“Filling the gaps. Taking place after Halo2 and before Halo 3 ;that means there is no master chief in this game.
You instead play as ODSTs (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) also refereed to as 'Hell Jumpers', the main ODST in this game is you, the Rookie, but don't worry you'll be able to play as them all.
You find a new alien created by the forerunners that have been captured and used by the covenant, these strange creatures can be your best friend and it is wise not to not get too close to some (covenant left surprise on some that react with human signatures at close distances).”

“To be honest, I rented this title, missing out on the “Reach” beta but, whatever. This was partly due to the fact that when “ODST” first came out I fell for what the reviewers were telling me; “ODST is little more than an add-on to Halo 3.” Given that I was so very over playing “Halo 3” I thought I wouldn’t bother. Don’t make my mistake, if you’ve put off playing it because you didn’t want “Halo 3.5” stop being a fool and rent the damn thing. If you’re looking to 100% the achievements, however, bear in mind that a couple of the achievements (e.g. Vidmasters: Endure and Déjà vu to be precise) require a 4-player co-op which can be difficult to come by given the age of the game and the need to schedule with other like-minded individuals.
It’s a fun little game that had the potential to really rival others in its franchise but, due to some poor choices in the setting and characters, it comes off as a bit childish and outdated. Definitely worth a rent for the “Halo” fan-boys, maybe a straight up purchase if you can find it used. It was a blast to play and set the stage for the much more refined “Halo: Reach.”
