Featuring four separate game modes and visuals designed as a loving homage to classic 8-bit titles, Half-Minute Hero finds gamers saving the world from evil in 30-second intervals. Each of the four game modes is split into 30 levels, and each offers a different style of gameplay. In the RPG-like "Hero 30," players attempt to defeat evil lords by engaging in random battles (featuring completely automated combat), leveling up, earning loot, and stopping by small towns to recover health and purchase items. "Evil Lord 30" is a simple real-time strategy mode where gamers can summon three different kinds of monsters to dispatch a variety of monsters in each location.
"Princess 30" is a side-scrolling shooter in which a young royal and her squadron of protective knights fire arrows in all directions as they attempt to capture helpful items, and "Knight 30" is made up of a series of escort missions where players try to protect a mage from relentless monster attacks. The catch in every one of the game modes is that players have only 30 seconds to complete each task before the world ends. Fortunately for gamers, the apocalypse can be averted thanks to the venal nature of the Time Goddess, who will gladly turn back the clock for a small fee. Half-Minute Hero also features a multiplayer mode, letting up to four gamers compete in local Ad-hoc competitions. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide
