DESCRIPTION
The second installment in Valve's planned trilogy, Half-Life 2: Episode Two continues the first-person exploits of scientist Gordon Freeman as he moves away from City 17 and into uncharted territory. While the Citadel is little more than charred rubble, the danger is far from over.
Players will engage new enemy variants and factions while fighting alongside rebel forces in forest regions, underground tunnels, base camps, and more. An emphasis on open-ended encounters means players can accomplish objectives in multiple ways, using the terrain as part of their strategy to deal with hostile creatures such as Hunters, Striders, and Antlions.
More physics-based puzzle sequences are part of the action, and a new vehicle type lets Freeman traverse the expansive environments with one of the game's non-player characters, who will automatically man a gun turret to provide protection against oncoming threats. Visual enhancements include dynamic shadow effects, a new particle system, improved physics, and support for multi-core processors.
Initial release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two can be purchased separately through Valve's online-only Steam service or as part of one of various retail packages distributed by Electronic Arts. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“This is an amazing game. Its semi-short expansion but not too short. It plunges you into a strange futuristic world.”

“Considering the excellent gameplay and cinematic in-engine cutscenes, it would be pretty hard to top Half-Life 2 (and episode 2's) production value without a massive graphics overhaul. That being said, Episode 2 is much nicer than needed holding pattern before Episode 3 and (presumably) Half-Life 3 come out, not to mention the assumed link-up with the canon of the portal games.
As Dr. Gordon Freeman, you battle your way to the White Forest facility where you are expected to prep the launch of a rocket that will close the portal left after your shenanigans in Half-Life 2. Along the way, you get to kill the gamut of HL2 enemies, with the usual weapons i.e. Gravity Gun, Shotgun, Pistols, Sniper Crossbow, I need not go on.
The ending is a wonderfully unexpected cliffhanger, and is undoubtedly going to tie in nicely to the next installment, which will hopefully come out soon, now that I've finished Episode 2 a full three and a half years after it came out. *slap*
Despite feeling like a token bridge to Half-Life 3, the HL2 episodes work well continuing the gameplay of the original game, and I can recommend them for that.”

“Started playing through Episode 2 again. I was hoping to be able to play through the entire game in one day, like I did with Episode 1, so I could be finished by the time Portal 2 came out, but it...”
