DESCRIPTION
Your mission in Gyruss is to eliminate waves of alien spacecraft. Piloting a lone ship, you move in a circular motion around the enemies while firing missiles and collecting weapon power-ups. Each wave of enemies is called a warp with a varied number of warps between planets.
When a planet is reached, you must fend off a greater number of alien ships in order to save several planets from destruction. After you've traveled through the solar system and saved Earth, the game is finished! Alien attackers move in circular patterns and when their attack is over, any survivors are positioned in the background until it's their turn to attack again. Warps aren't completed until all enemies have been destroyed or you lose your final ship.
While your spaceship features a set of default missiles at the start of the game, you receive better equipment as the game progresses. At certain points, you can double the stream of fire by shooting certain power-ups. In addition to alien spacecraft, you also have to contend with various meteors and satellites.
After razing a certain number of alien attackers, you receive an extra life and points are earned with each spacecraft you destroy. Upon completion of the final warp and planet, Gyruss stores the high score and the game starts at the beginning. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
