DESCRIPTION
Gunfighter II, the sequel to 2001's PlayStation budget release, continues the wild adventures of Jesse James as players strap on a six-shooter and prepare to gun down an assortment of two-bit thugs and double crossing varmints who done them wrong. The same interface found in the first Gunfighter has carried over to this follow-up: players aim a light gun at the screen from a first-person perspective while seeking cover behind crates, barrels, and other objects to avoid getting hit. Health is once again represented by a series of four playing cards in the lower left corner of the screen, while a time limit and score is displayed in the bottom center. On the lower right is a picture of the gun's cylinder, letting players know how many bullets are left in their revolver.
Two different modes of play include Story and Arcade. Story follows Jesse James' quest for revenge as he seeks out bandits through an assortment of locales, including a mine, campsite, and various hideouts. Players will eventually confront boss characters whose weapons are automatically earned after their defeat. To help players complete each stage within the time limit, a pocket watch will appear, adding more seconds to the clock if successfully hit. Other bonuses to shoot for include tin cans to restore playing cards, and wanted posters to increase the number of continues. Various mini-games are also available, testing a player's shooting skills in the areas of speed and accuracy. Gunfighter II uses developer Rebellion's custom-designed "Asura Engine" for 3D graphics and rag doll physics. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
