Guitar Hero II: Backstage Pass backs up the popular series' rhythm-action gameplay with an in-depth career simulation that takes mobile gamers from rock wannabes to top billed acts — if they are willing to put in the blood, sweat, and tears it takes. Through dialog choices and comic book-style scenes, the player's character promotes the band, creates demos, and deals with the media. With a little luck, the effort pays off, and the player's band is booked at bigger venues, for larger fees. Musicianship still counts for something too, of course, in a selection of guitar-playing mini-games in which the player hits three buttons to play notes in time with scrolling onscreen cues. ~ T.J.
