Great Battles of Alexander is the first in a series of historical war simulations developed by Erudite Software. Nearly every significant battle Alexander the Great was involved in is included as one of ten scenarios that cover the period 338-326BC. As the son of the King of Macedonia, Philip II, Alexander II (who earned the title "the Great" after subjugating the Persian Empire) took over the reigns of his father's armies and improved the "Macedonian art of war" which relied on a combined arms attack with cavalry and spear toting infantry. This system of combat was a catalyst for future warfare that supplanted the ancient Greek hoplite system. Full player management is given to all aspects of army control which is carried out under a strict turn-based order of battle reliant upon actions of various field commanders (or leaders). Great Battles of Alexander features fully supported multi-player modes by modem, LAN or internet. The game features a simple point-and-click interface coupled with a drop down menu support system. The game includes a tutorial designed to introduce the player to the varied and semi-complex rules required to enjoy the game to its fullest potential. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
