DESCRIPTION
The top-secret electromagnetic satellite known as GoldenEye has fallen into enemy hands. It is believed the Janus Syndicate, an international terrorist organization headquartered in St. Petersburg, Russia, has stolen the key to the device, which could render the world completely powerless. Your mission, James, is to infiltrate the organization, find out who is responsible, and prevent the satellite from being activated. Rare's third Nintendo 64 release is a first-person shooter based on 1995's GoldenEye, the film marking Pierce Brosnan's debut as James Bond. The action is spread across 18 missions, each with multiple objectives to complete, from powering-down a communications dish in Severnaya to photographing maps.
Nineteen weapons range from silenced pistols and sniper rifles to proximity mines and throwing knives. A red crosshair target helps pinpoint shots so you can draw as little attention to your presence as possible. To help you complete the different objectives, Q has supplied your character with an array of nifty gadgets. These include a covert modem, watch laser, microcamera, bomb defuser, door decoder, key analyzer, watch magnet, and plastique. After fulfilling your duties for Her Majesty's Secret Service, the one-player game is not over. Another difficulty level becomes available, offering new objectives to fulfill on top of previous ones. Enemy soldiers will also become harder to defeat.
The game offers a total of three difficulty levels (Agent, Secret Agent and 00 Agent) designed to maximize replay value. You can also challenge up to three friends in the multiplayer mode. Eight scenarios offer varied styles of play, from a standard deathmatch to team battles offering a choice of two-on-two, three-on-one, or two-on-one matches. Other modes feature Bond movie titles. In You Only Live Twice, each player is given two lives while attempting to be the last one standing. "The Living Daylights involves holding a flag for as long as possible. "The Man With the Golden Gun" has players searching for the pistol that kills with one bullet, while "Licensed to Kill" makes every shot fatal. Adjustable multiplayer options include time or point limits, arena location, weapons, and health levels. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Seriously, nobody has written about Goldeneye 007 for the N64 yet on GamerDNA? That is some inadequate DNA if you ask me: shame on you gamers who haven't added it yet. Goldeneye for the N64 is a CLASSIC game of our generation, one that acted as the intermediary between 2d and 3d gaming. Goldeneye, though noticeably dated because of funny graphics, will forever hold a precious place in my memories as my brothers and friends would play multiplayer together, battling for kills. Shooter games have evolved a lot since then and admittably Goldeneye lacks some key features like capture the flag mode, but you sure could have a proximity mine war in the restrooms as my brothers and I frequently did. But many modern games lack the variety of gun choices that Goldeneye offered. A tribute to game that started the first person shooter.”
