DESCRIPTION
This sequel to the Game Boy Advance's first original RPG features more puzzle-solving exploration and turn-based battle in a new adventure. As in the first game, Golden Sun: The Lost Age players guide a party of brave (and cute) characters on a multi-staged quest to save the world, using magic, mental powers, and other special abilities to make their way through detailed game screens stocked with environment-based brainteasers and a variety of challenging bad guys.
This new story begins where the last ended, and features newly playable characters who were NPCs in the first Golden Sun game. The sequel also offers new power-enhancing Djinn to collect and take into battle, and a refined graphics engine for even sharper visual presentation. Like the original, Golden Sun: The Lost Age was developed by Camelot Software and is published by Nintendo. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“Previously on "Golden Sun": The sequel started, yeah! By all respect, "Golden Sun" is the most disappointing game I played in ages. It has a solid beginning though I didn't really realised the purpose of the whole "We're rescueing the world"-setting. It concluded with an open ending and that's the starting point of the second piece of the game. Let's not discuss what the production team had in mind by splitting the game on two cartridges, it only happened, end of story.
There aren't much changes with the gameplay: Colors are brighter, summon-beasts can "fuse" with each other depending on their element, some awesome new spells for overworld use and a new team. The team contains characters from the prequel, mainly the other "good" guys. They aren't bad people, they only want to accieve different things or something else but don't bother, it don't worth your money. The funny part is with the main hero. He cannot talk (except answering with "Yes" or "No" like the hero of the first game) but he literally talked monologues in the first game, so I'm concerned about the reason for changing him to a silent hero. Staying silent is maybe a good character point because the game contains a high rate of >exploring and >talking though >talking is much more present so the fact of someone being quiet forever is relaxing to a certain extent.
But don't stick with the shallow characters, complaining won't make them better. Take a look at how the characters fit in the setting. Actually >exploring is the fun part of a game, but "Golden Sun 2" makes yourself more frustraited than excited. I have to admit that some dungeons are really detailed and the riddles aren't much tricky and manageable with the spells your characters learned. The "purple rock" dungeon is the best example for a well thought out sidequest dungeon.
Did I mention good sidequests? Yes? And that's the point! Taking the sidequest as a counterpart, the whole mainquest is hardly linear and one don't know the next steps. You're destination is to run around on the map and to search for the next task (and - by the way - to solve the sidequests on the road). Spotting a sidequest is probably easier than beating the game.
But imagine your able to go through the mainquest with the help of a walkthrough: Something happens. You get your old team (the failure characters of the first game) back and ,depending on using some magical GameboyAdvance technics, with their good equipment. Though you will not use them in battle. But the first silent hero can talk, that is an improvement. At the ending even the second silent hero talks! Some thoughts of the game ending: It is indeed lousy but not disappointing. ”

“The Lost Age is the second installment to the Golden Sun series and yet again it's one hell of a fine game.
+ Cast. The cast won't be no stranger to those who played the first game altough it may be a bit surprising and uncomfortable at first. Personally, I prefer this cast over the previous one but that's just me :D
+ Graphics, sound,... the whole shabang (ugh... I know, that was awesome. Please forgive me, I'm sleepy xD)... it's still very nice and it might very well be the most one could gain from the GBA.
+ The game allows for a lot more freedom then before, especially once you get the teleport spell.
- The story really can't be called original and will often seem forced. Quite a pity when compared to GS1 but ah well...
- It's good that the game offers a lot of freedom but there are few places to visit, nearly every one being used in the story anyway, and they expect you to progress the story without any clue on what to do. I would've loved some small places where you could just visit and sniff in some atmosphere.
- The Djinn-related problems from the first game haven't been fixed.
Don't get me wrong, this game is very good and well worth it's money. It just doesn't live up to the expectations after the (better) GS1. Let's hope they get back on track for nr3 and finally fix the Djinn!”
