DESCRIPTION

An overwhelming force of evil has swept over the land of Yuria. Death Adder and his evil minions have taken over every village, terrorized all the peasants and killed thousands. Finally, Death Adder has kidnapped the king and princess and taken control of the legendary Golden Axe.

Out of the ashes, three remarkable warriors have come to challenge Death Adder and end his reign of tyranny. Ax Battler, a sword wielding barbarian from the plains, wields the power of lightning magic. Tyris Flare, the Amazon, is weak with the sword but powerful with her fire magic. Gilius Thunderhead's earth magic is limited in its ability, but he compensates for that with his powerful axe. These three warriors have sworn to free the land from Death Adder's grasp and destroy the evil overlord himself.

Players can choose to play as any of the three characters. If two players are cooperating together, they must choose two different characters. Each character has a stock of health units as well as a magic gauge that can be charged up to six levels depending on the character. The higher a character's magic gauge is, the more powerful and damaging the resulting spell will be. Characters can fill their magic gauges by hitting the blue gnomes that appear throughout the game to get them to drop magic potions. Players will occasionally come across green gnomes; they can be hit for health-replenishing food.

Each of the player characters can perform a hit combo on enemy characters, but at the risk of being attacked from the rear by enemies. Characters can also perform rushing bash attacks or jumping slashes. At certain points, players will come across enemies mounted on tail-swinging lizards or fire breathing dragons.
