DESCRIPTION
Designed by Ed Logg (of Asteroids fame), Gauntlet was the first video game to enable four players to select from four distinctly different characters and engage them in simultaneous play. Gamers guide an ax-wielding warrior, a bow-carrying elf, a sword and shield-equipped valkyrie, or a magic-enhanced wizard (each varying in strength, speed, armor and magic) through a series of maze-like dungeons while battling ghosts, demons, and other monsters and gathering up food, treasure and magic potions. Food restores health, but supplies are limited, forcing players with unhealthy fighters to insert coins for additional playtime. Gauntlet stands out for its engaging multi-player action, huge number of mazes, memorable characters, balanced gameplay, fun voice effects and advanced graphics. It helped reinvigorate the relatively docile gaming scene of the mid-'80s. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
