The third installment of the Game & Watch Gallery series features five games based on classic Nintendo handhelds that were popular in the early '80s. This time around, the games are Egg, Greenhouse, Turtle Bridge, Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong Jr.
Each game comes in a classic and modern version with easy and hard levels of difficulty. The classic versions simulate the simple LCD visuals of the original games down to the last detail, while the modern versions use the same gameplay concepts with updated graphics and sound.
Egg puts you in control of a wolf trying to collect eggs falling from four different chutes inside a chicken house. It's up to you to move the wolf into position to catch them before they hit the ground. In the modern version, Yoshi replaces the wolf, and the eggs become cookies.
In Greenhouse, insects are trying to destroy the plants on two levels of your greenhouse. You're armed with bug spray, so it's just a matter of getting to the bugs before they get to your flora. In the modern version, Yoshi defends his garden from Flyguys and monkeys.
The object of Turtle Bridge is to deliver a package across a water-filled chasm by hopping on the backs of turtles. These turtles are hungry, so they'll occasionally dive down to catch a fish. Make sure to time your jumps accordingly. Toad is the star of the modern version; he delivers a box from Mario to Princess Toadstool by jumping on birds.
The ever industrious Mario Bros. aren't plumbers or carpenters in this game — they're factory workers. It's their job to guide parts through a snake-like conveyor belt without letting them touch the ground. The modern version is the same but with better graphics and sound.
Donkey Kong Jr. is a modified version of the Arcade hit in which the son of Kong must rescue his father from Mario by jumping on vines and collecting keys while avoiding birds and other enemies. The modern version updates the graphics and sound.
In addition to these five games, Game & Watch Gallery 3 also contains a gallery with hints, a museum and many other surprises. Different areas of the gallery are unlocked by collecting stars, which are earned by achieving high scores in each of the games' various modes.
