DESCRIPTION
G.I. Joe is a game based on the popular G.I. Joe toy line from Hasbro. Developed by Konami in 1992, G.I. Joe is a forward moving shooter, similar to a lot of air combat games. The main difference, of course, is that most of the action takes place on the ground, with the player's chosen character constantly moving toward the horizon.
The object of the game is to find COBRA's hidden base and prevent Cobra Commander from taking over the world. The cartoon show was less violent than the videogame, however. There are four selectable characters for G.I. Joe. They are Duke, Scarlett, Roadblock, and Snake Eyes. Each character is armed with a gun and a missile launcher. The gun has unlimited ammunition. The missile launcher comes with five missiles and can hold no more than nine. Depleted missile supplies can be replenished by finding power-ups located throughout each stage of the game.
The player will encounter several boss characters on their way to COBRA's secret hideout. They include the Crimson Twins, Major Bludd, The Baroness, and Destro, among others. The final battle takes place between the G.I. Joe team and Cobra Commander. Up to four players can play in simultaneous same-screen action. Each character begins with five lives. Additional lives can be obtained by inserting more credits. ~ Anthony Baize, All Game Guide
