DESCRIPTION

Fuel is an off-road racing game of grand scale and open-ended attitude. The racing takes place on and off 100,000 miles of track, in a 5,000 square mile area that comprises deserts, forests, and a hodge-podge of natural landmarks of the western U.S., including Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake, the Bonneville Salt Flats, and the Grand Canyon. Players are free to explore the area as they wish, in one of the game's many two- or four-wheeled off-road vehicles. Different vehicles have different strengths and weakness in different types of terrain. Fuel is set in an alternate reality, in which whole regions of the world have been ravaged by climate change. Speed junkies now race through the abandoned wastelands, with scarce and valuable fuel as the ultimate prize. The game's single-player circuit poses particular rally course challenges, and gives players a chance to unlock new possibilities. Players are also free to create their own courses, by dropping waypoints across the map. Fuel features a day-and-night cycle and strategy-influencing weather effects, such as thunder and lightning, sandstorms, tornadoes, and blizzards. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“@WCR-COMMANDO There's a lot of conversations around this game. Most people feel, that this game isn't worth it's hype, others disagree with it. Personally, I thinks that this game is great, it gives me exactly what I wanted from it: vast territories open for free foam. There's nothing there except races (that's why many people feel that the world is dead, but I'm ok with it) and free exploration.

You can easily try the demo and see it for yourself if it suits you.”

“Read that you sometimes have to travel or roam alot (hours in real time) in order to get to the next race. How long does a race usually take?”

“@WCR-COMMANDO: If you really want to travel all the way from one corner of the map to the other, yes, it can take hours I think (but you always can fast-travel).

Races on the other hand are really diverse and can take anything from 3 minutes up to 30 (I'd say 10-15 on the average).”

“As you know, I'm fan of open world traveling like in Fallout3 - I sometimes just roam around for hours to explore and alot can happen: meeting giant ants or alot of gary-clones or old lady looking for her violine. I'm just worried that FUEL has only races to offer.”

“@WCR-COMMANDO: Yes, I fear that that's the case - only races. (Well, there's Vista Point hunting and other small things like paintings, but that's just a bonus for a free riding).”
