DESCRIPTION
This edition of Fire Emblem is a console-style, tactical RPG developed for play on GameCube. Players lead a powerful, loyal, diverse band of mercenaries, and fight to bring peace to a war-torn fantasy realm called Tellius. The game is played across true 3D battlefields, which give added importance to considerations such as height and cover. Quick cut-scenes add drama when two characters face off in a head-to-head fight. As the player's characters progress through the story, they can be custom-developed with new skills and equipment. Though less familiar to some American console gamers, the Fire Emblem series has been popular in its native land of Japan since its early-'90s debut on Famicom (NES). Developer Intelligent Systems is best known to many American gamers as the creator of the GBA's acclaimed Advance Wars games, as well as the handheld's 2003 version of Fire Emblem. ~ T.J. “Good enough to play through twice. This game's punishing difficulty and heavy strategy make it a truly satisfying experience.
The game is linear and only a limited amount of experience is rewarded per battle. This keeps the player from overpowering their units, and maintains the games challenge. The game mechanics are simple, which makes the game feel more like chess, than an RPG. There is also no revival of units once the die for the rest of the game, which means you can either keep going without them, or if you are like me, start the battle over and over again until you win without a loss.
Caster units can be particularly troublesome, as they can die in one hit. This, however, forces the player to be strategic and maintain proper formations so that they are well protected.
If you want to play the game on hard, I recommend playing the first time on normal, get a feel for the game, find out where all the recruitable units are, know how to disperse exp., then go back and beat it on hard.
The story was pretty solid too. The large cast of characters really makes you feel like you're following an army. The politics woven along the story piqued my interest.
The game will frustrate you, make you want to throw something at the TV, even to the most sane of us, especially when a unit dies right before the end of a battle. The satisfaction of victory, however, is like no other.”

“In my opinion, one of the best of the Fire Emblem series. The strategic thinking made it fun to play, and watching the awesome battle animations made it even more entertaining. Replayed it 3 times and never got tired of it!”
