DESCRIPTION
This DS-exclusive Final Fantasy release takes place one year after the events chronicled in 2006's Final Fantasy XII on PlayStation 2. Sky pirate Vaan acquires his own vessel, the Galbana, and discovers a floating continent high above Ivalice. In search of treasure and high adventure, Vaan, Penelo, and crew will encounter a bird-like race in desperate need of assistance, and an ancient evil threatening the entire world.
Featuring an isometric perspective and a battle system structured like real-time strategy games, Revenant Wings is a departure from previous RPGs on the handheld. Combat involves first tapping party members with the stylus, scrolling the battlefield with the Control Pad, and then either tapping on a location to move or on a target to attack. Multiple party members can be quickly selected by drawing a box around them. Characters can also use items, skills, and magic, including summoning Espers to help in battle.
Players can eventually call forth dozens of Espers, such as groups of Cactoids, Bombs, White Hares, Tonberries, and Chocobos, each offering distinct abilities. The top screen displays an overhead map of the battlefield with icons indicating points of interest and the positions of enemy units. The touch-screen shows a close-up view of the action, with the visuals mixing hand-drawn, sprite-based characters and 3D backgrounds. The airship Galbana serves as both a base and as a means to travel across the continent. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“A nice RTS mix from the FF series. It sits somewhere between a class FF game and FF:TT. A real time tactical game if you will. Battles are broken down into small chunks which are good for a portable game. It is easy to pick up and play and is mostly stylus based. Perfect for the DS It could have actually benefited from a Book style orientation though.”

“I liked this game. The story was bad, I'll give it that, but the mistakes from Heroes of Mana were fixed in this game and it shows. The game play was a little lacking, but still fun to watch 70 units on screen battle it out. It was nice to see...”

The game play was a little lacking, but still fun to watch 70 units on screen battle it out. It was nice to see Vaan and Penelo together as a kind of relationship as well...
And... I really loved how well they put the music from FFXII on a handheld. Sometimes I would purposely irritate enemies just to hear fight music and run around in circles avoiding them to keep it going.
Trivial I know, but I feel it needed to be mentioned.”
