DESCRIPTION
Final Fantasy involves a band of warriors assembled to save the world from the forces of evil. Players create a party of four adventurers and set forth to explore their large world. Characters are selected from six different classes (Fighter, Black Belt, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage), each with its own defining attributes.
The Fighter can use almost any weapon or armor, the Red Mage can use some weapons, some armor, and some spells, and the Black Mage can cast powerful battle spells but cannot use most of the armor or weapons. Other classes feature similarly balanced restrictions. Once a certain point in the game is reached, the characters become experts in their current class and change into a more powerful identity (e.g. the Black Mage becomes the Black Wizard).
Players can enter towns, buy items and spells, learn clues about their quest, and even occasionally fight. And as the story progresses, non-player characters may have more to reveal or different things to say. Final Fantasy has a deep story and huge areas to explore, taking the heroes to mountains and volcanoes, buried submarines, space stations, and even through time. ~ Shelby Babb, All Game Guide

“When I was 4 years old I played this game with my Grandpa who was crazy for it, but he wouldn't allow me to do anything fun on it. He'd let me buy items which you had to buy one at a time and walk around towns and gather information for him. He took this game very serious.
I later picked it up off of him when I was 10 and although I liked the game, I found it painfully slow moving. Being the first of it's kind I suppose it's forgivable, seeming as my age bracket was already graced with super nintendo and later editions of this series I suppose I couldn't appreciate this game. It took me two years to get the lead out and beat this game keyly because it was so annoying to play. I wish I played it when I didn't have other choices... It was a good game, a solid entry and beginning to the worldwide series... I was just too late.
However the remake for ps1, even though it was a whole lot easier, gave this game some value back to me. All the story, at a much faster pace.”

“An interesting topic, and one I had to really think about. 30 + years of gaming makes for quite a large list of games played. Still, I'd have to put these games in my top five: 1. Pac-Man (Atari...”

“This was...a great game. When I was a kid, I thought "Wow! It's like C64 Might and Magic but you can see your characters!"”

“Classic Final Fantasy. Since it's an early game, it requires a ton of difficult grinding and is devoid of any cutscenes. Its oldness hardly detracts from the epic plot and the huge, mysterious, and dangerous world.”
