DESCRIPTION

Final Fantasy IX, the third incarnation of Square's acclaimed RPG series on PlayStation, follows the story of an impetuous thief, a mysterious mage, a lonely princess, and a dedicated knight. All are united in their desire to save the kingdom of Alexandria from a queen gone mad. Eight characters are playable in total, with heroes leaving and rejoining your party at certain points in the narrative as they complete specific tasks.

Whenever characters leave the party, you will be updated on their progress with the "active time event" system. An icon at the bottom of the screen will flash when something significant happens outside your party. Selecting an event pauses the current action and displays dialogue sequences or cut-scenes. Although these story segments are optional, viewing them can reveal new character developments.

Final Fantasy IX retains many features from the two previous PlayStation games in the series, including pre-rendered backgrounds, polygonal characters, random battle sequences, and summon attacks. Yet instead of guiding three people in combat, you can battle with up to four. An "active time battle" gauge indicates when a character can attack, while the "trance" gauge builds as characters receive damage. Once this meter is filled, powerful special moves become available.

Final Fantasy IX also includes a card game called Tetra Master and reintroduces the Moogles, a race of creatures that will save your game or give you messages to deliver to others of their kind. On the world map, you can also locate forests populated by the bird-like Chocobos, which can be used as mounts or as part of a "Hot and Cold" mini-game that involves digging up buried treasure. “I bought another copy when the PSone was on its way out. Then my black label copy up and disappeared. That sucked. But I still bought it when it came out on PSN. Hopefully they will get the hint and remake it for PS3.”

“I stumbled upon this copy of VII (my second, a black label) at the grocery store I used to work at for $7 new. I have never played a complete game through with this copy. I wanted to preserve it though because when I was checking it to sell I found all three discs in D-Skins. Same story for IX, but it's a green label.”

“Since you're leaving this post. I would like to add, that's pretty much how I felt about ff13. Believe me, really I wanted to like it. I love all the other FF game. Started playing it, after about 5 hours in, the story confusing as hell, but I could live with it. I had to started over from the beginning, because money was seriously an issue.

After what seem like an tedious eternity, I finally get to Pulse, which took 50 hours NOT 15. The just game never got ANY BETTER. I was got bored, and put it down. Will probably NEVER play ff13 again. It's really a shame too, because it looks so pretty. However, there's nothing else there, but just pretty face with no substance.”

“"Wait... you wrote, "Lightening started hitting the computer and a boss fight started". That's pretty close to the beginning, when they all broken into that alien artifact looking for Lightening's sister, and got branded traitors.

Most people would tell you to finish the game, because of… x, y, z. I, on the other hand, will tell you to "Get out while you can!" You've run down enough beautiful rendered corridors to get the gist of the game.

And… by the way. About the story telling, part of it. "Yahtzee" said the exact same thing.”

“Don't worry I'm only borrowing disc 1 from a friend, and yes I'm at the very beginning.

It was funny...once I destroyed that boss it took me to a cutscene then they asked me to save the game, took me to a cutscene, asked me to save AGAIN, and then took me to another cutscene before I could move around!”

“I've played them all, and with the exception of XI, enjoyed them all. Each one has something to recommend it, and none of them are outright broken. Even XII, which is my least favorite, has some redeeming qualities.”
