Originally released in the Arcade by SNK, Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory is a sprite-based 2D fighting game. The story is simple and sweet: Ryuji Yamazaki is threatening the peace with menacing and threatening plans of destruction. Using one of 10 unique characters, your goal is to destroy the madman and thwart his plans. Unfortunately, Ryuji is a deadly fighter and will stop at nothing to see his ideals realized.
Characters include Fatal Fury alumni such as Andy and his brother Terry Bogard, kickboxer Joe Higashi and Geese Howard. Other fighters include a dreadlocked Bob Wilson, the beautiful but lethal Mai Shiranui and the ominous Sokaku. Regardless of which character you choose, each has his or her respective fighting style and maneuvers; there are six special moves per character in addition to basic kicks and punches. There's also a series of desperation moves executable after a given character's health meter is nearly depleted. These moves are highly damaging to the opposition.
While the 11 battlefields are in 2D, characters can move in between the foreground and background for a limited time; most of the action takes place in the middle plane, however. Moving in between the planes gives your character an advantage as he's able to attack a fighter located in the middle. Additionally, characters can execute even deadlier maneuvers while on a different plane. With animated eye-candy in the background and foreground, the road to Ryuji Yamazaki includes detailed swamps, temples, ancient shrines and city streets.
Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory has options to play alone or with another human opponent in a head-to-head battle. There's also eight difficulty settings, video and sound adjustments, a few language options and a timer that can be shortened, lengthened or turned off. Controls are totally customizable with keyboard and joystick support included. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
