DESCRIPTION
In the role of a mercenary, Far Cry 2 players find themselves in Africa. They are to bring down an arms dealer known only as "the Jackal," who has been thriving on tribal warfare. Suitably equipped but mostly alone, players are left to themselves to decide exactly what needs to be done and how to do it. Although the Far Cry title is previously known for impressive graphics and cunning shooter gameplay, Far Cry 2 is most distinguished by its open world design. Instead of a linear storyline or scripted quests, the game presents a framework of places and people who are designed to act according to their own natures, and react according to the way the player deals with them.
The game's heroes are a group of loosely associated "buddies." Players can choose to play as any one of the characters in this group, and the others will be placed in the game as friendly NPCs. Friends and enemies alike, all NPCs in the game are designed to act and react naturally in their current circumstances. Enemy guards tend to their duties and make decisions dynamically. Allies decide to become allies on their own terms.
Although 2004's Far Cry was the breakthrough game for its developer Crytek, Far Cry 2 was developed by Ubisoft's premier Montreal studio. The sequel inherits the original's focus on sharp graphics and a powerful physics engine. The dry scrub grass, which seems to wave and sway in breezes that stumble across the virtual Serengeti, is realistically flammable. Fire can spread, in a natural fashion, to any combustible object. The game's built-from scratch engine seems engineered to handle other state-of-the-art graphics and physics effects with similar aplomb. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“Impressive animations, open world. Realistic and immersive. However it's let down by an almost non-existent story and an attempt at sandbox which really fails to make use of the concept.”

I love this game for its awesome graphics, open world and being immersive.
I did play single player many times, because multiplayer is "run and gun" game. I, personally, don't like "run's and gun's".
According gamerDNA I am Explorer + Achiever. That is why I prefer to stay in a map location and listening natural sound or a rain rather than die in front of machine gun. Doing this because of score in the statistics board, IMHO, is silly.
Playing for have joy every minute spent in the game - that is my style of gaming and this game can give it to you in its single player.
At this moment, I did play this game about 545 hours and I think it is not last.

“Players trek across Far Cry 2's African landscape as one of several well armed paramilitaries in search of fortune, danger and nemesis, "The Jackal." Though Far Cry 2 does attempt to string players along with a very standard quest for revenge, the game's African sandbox is without a doubt, the main attraction. In fact, players wandering across the game's various beautifully crafted environments, ranging from vast salt flats to dense jungles, complete with a day / night cycle, are liable to entirely forget and abandon the game's main storyline.
During these expeditions, and expeditions they are because Far Cry's map is humongous, players can acquire diamonds by completing quests or by finding any of hundreds of hidden, collectible diamonds in the world. Exchanging these diamonds at an arms dealer will net the player both upgrades and weapons, including a flamethrower that can be used to realistically torch savanna brush and just about anything else flammable. Regrettably, the arms dealer doesn’t sell heat or night vision goggles as firefights with black African enemies in the middle of the night can be very irritating.
Unfortunately, though Far Cry provides the tools and weapons to suit multiple play styles and friendly NPCs can help even the odds, quickly respawning enemies hidden with remarkable marksmanship around every corner and periodic malaria attacks become very annoying facts of life.
Verdict: Far Cry 2 is a beautiful, if imperfect, sandbox FPS experience that allows players to complete objectives using a variety of play styles, whether the player imagines himself a rampaging Rambo or stealthy Agent 007. Additionally, multiple collectibles and side quests round out the usual suspects and give the dedicated a little more to chew on. Ultimately, various annoyances like constant player harassment, a weak story and forgettable multiplayer prevent Far Cry 2 from attaining greatness.
Purchased: USD30 @ Best Buy.
Value: USD42.”
