DESCRIPTION

Based on the now classic Wasteland, Fallout is a role-playing game set in a post-nuclear environment. The story picks up years after a two-hour nuclear Armageddon reduced the world to a pile of rubble and debris. Nearly a thousand people were packed into various Vault-Tec survival shelters completed in the late 21st century. Close to eighty years have passed with no knowledge of the outside post-apocalyptic world. You are one of a group of survivors in Vault 13 and the water recycling system is failing. It's time to send someone out of the vault, into the unknown wastelands in an effort to find replacement parts or other survivors. You've been chosen.

Using or modifying one of three pre-generated characters (diplomatic, combative, or deceptive) or building your own character from scratch, you embark on a complex journey. You'll traverse through devastated sites and locations; discovering, exploring, and confronting whatever dangers (violence, gangs, and mutants, to name a few) have developed after eighty years of radiation contamination.

Fallout uses a tactical turn-based combat system and provides a huge array of weaponry (from brass knuckles to rocket launchers). Featuring more than fifty quests, RPG staples such as character skill improvements and ability modifiers allowing your character to grow, and an innovative survivor's guide, Fallout provides a rich, rewarding excursion into the land of the lost.

“@LordOphidian That's really what caused the problem, I believe. Interplay never really had any huge commercial success so I think they never had the budget required to do what Bethesda did. I'm not knocking Bethesda though, I thought they did a really great job with three. They definitely kept true to the series, and brought the excellent series into a lot more peoples' homes. I just think it's unfortunate that so many people aren't even *willing* to give the first two a try.”

“@mykalgaidin Yeah yeah *insert wrestling game* is too easy, so should I try playing it with one hand?

Honestly, It really pisses me off when a game played normally is really easy, and then someone tells them to do something really stupid that will make the game almost impossible.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the very long time Fallout 2 fans, but I'm one of the few that really enjoys Fallout 3. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as the original 2, but it's still better than most games in general.”

“That's the great thing about a lot of modern games; you're really only limited by your imagination.

Although personally, I prefer to experience the game as the designers intended. There's more to a story than just dialogue and cutscenes. The very way you traverse the world and interact with the people and objects within can be just as important as a well-written script. Look at games like ICO. It has almost no dialogue, no exposition, no real explanation, and yet the story it conveys is almost transcendent in nature; going beyond the bounds of the simple story of a young child trying to escape a castle.

I keep looking for Fallout 1 & 2 for my Macbook, but so far have been unsuccessful. Once I actually have money I'll continue my search, as they sound like excellent games.”
